Koshi Chimes: Earth Symphony
Earth Symphony is the new Koshi collection: four chimes inspired by the great presences of Nature, Mountain, Forest, River and Ocean. Every chime is handcrafted and hand-tuned in the Koshi workshop at the foot of the French Pyrenees. Twelve steel rods are silver-soldered to a metal plate at the base of a wooden resonance chamber, and four of these rods are doubled at the same frequency as sympathetic resonators. This gives the Earth Symphony chimes their extra depth and long, immersive resonance. All four are tuned with reference to 440 Hz, so they sit easily alongside other instruments and voices, and all four share the same harmonic coherence: play them alone or combine them in any order. Plastic-free, with a brass and coconut shell clapper.

Koshi Mountain, majesty and the sacred
The Koshi Mountain opens the Earth Symphony collection. Its melody in E major (E E G# G# A A B B E G# A B) sounds broad, grounded and contemplative and may evoke height, silence, stability and presence. The notes appear, answer one another, then slowly fade. The resonance chamber is walnut with a thin layer of matte varnish. Use Mountain to open and close a meditation, or let it bring a sense of space to sound healing and yoga.
Koshi Forest, mystery and contemplation
The Koshi Forest is inspired by the forest as a living space. Its melody in F# minor (C# F# F# G# G# A A C# F# G# A C#) is deep and contemplative and may evoke mysterious voices as much as silence. The twelve rods create a dense, layered sound in an oak resonance chamber.
Koshi River, movement and hope
The Koshi River has a fluid, flowing and positive character. Its melody in G# minor (D# D# G# G# A# A# B B D# G# A# B) may evoke movement, change and the current of a river that is never the same twice. Resonance chamber in cherry wood. River suits meditation, yoga, relaxation and sound therapy.
Koshi Ocean, receptivity and infinity
The Koshi Ocean has a vast, deep and welcoming character. Its pentatonic melody in B major (C# D# D# F# F# B B C# D# F# B C#) may evoke boundless expanse and the movement of the waves. Because a pentatonic scale has no tense intervals, Ocean's phrases always resolve gently. Resonance chamber in maple. Played with the other three, Ocean brings a broader openness to the ensemble without breaking its balance.
Earth Symphony or the original 4 Elements?
The original Koshi 4 Elements (Terra, Aqua, Ignis and Aria) have eight rods, a bamboo veneer resonance chamber and an adjusted 432 Hz tuning. Earth Symphony adds four sympathetic resonator rods, uses a resonance chamber in walnut, oak, cherry or maple and is tuned to 440 Hz, for a broader and longer resonance. Both are handmade in the same Koshi workshop in France. All four Earth Symphony chimes together come in the Koshi Earth Symphony Set of 4.
