A gentle turn of the wrist lets the central clapper set the rods in motion and release a cascade of broad, deep notes. The wider the movement, the more rods sound. A slow pendulum swing plays individual notes.

In the wind: hang the chime in a sheltered spot outdoors, for example on a porch or under a roof, or by an open window, where the breeze plays melodies of its own.

Meditation: use Mountain to open and close a meditation session.

Sound therapy and sound yoga: Mountain sits naturally alongside singing bowls, gongs and other harmonic instruments. Twelve steel rods are silver-soldered to a metal plate at the base of a walnut resonance chamber and hand-tuned to 440 Hz, in E major: E E G# G# A A B B E G# A B. Four of the rods are doubled as sympathetic resonators, which gives the collection its longer, deeper resonance. Gaia Chimes sells only original Koshi Chimes sourced in France.

How does it sound?
Broad, grounded and contemplative. Listen to the sound sample at the top of this page.

How is it different from the original Koshi Terra, Aqua, Aria and Ignis?
The 4 Elements chimes have eight rods, a bamboo veneer resonance chamber and are tuned to an adjusted 432 Hz. The Earth Symphony chimes have twelve rods, four of them doubled as resonators, a resonance chamber in European hardwood (walnut, oak, cherry or maple) and are tuned to 440 Hz. The result is a broader, deeper sound that resonates longer.

Can Mountain be played with Forest, River and Ocean?
Yes.
